Small Groups

We recognize the life-giving value of being in community. Small groups offer a more intimate setting to connect with each other and be transformed by life-giving teaching, prayer and fellowship.

I really want to know God, personally and intimately.” Do those words resonate with you? You’re tired of just going through the motions of being a Christian: Go to church. Pray. Be nice. That spiritual to-do list just doesn’t cut it. But what does? How do you step out of the drudgery of religious duty to experience a living, moment-by-moment, deeply intimate relationship with God? Join Lysa Terkeurst and Abiding Women in six small group sessions that will transform your walk with God. Go from lackluster theory to vibrant reality!

“Abiding Women” meets on the first and third Saturdays of every month, beginning Saturday, March 16 for these six sessions. Purchase your own book and/or study guide to go along with the class through Amazon, Abe Books, or on Lysa’s website. Please register by filling out a “contact us” form on the dropdown menu under “ABOUT” at the top of this page, letting us know you plan to attend. Contact Eunice Mitchell at (503) 208-2109 for more information. Class is held at Abiding Place downstairs in room 105.

School of Ministry

Dan Farrelly Pic.jpg

We greatly value continual transformation into the fullness of Christ. Classes give us the opportunity to define and develop our relationships with God and each other, and equip/train us to impact our world.  School of Ministry classes begin in September, 2018, with classes continuing through May, 2019. Classes may be subject to change. Other classes occur quarterly.

Brave Communication

There are conversations in life with very high relational or professional stakes. The better we learn to stay clear and not shut down or get defensive, the more success we will know in life. We need language to share the gospel. We need to be clear communicators in our families, our neighborhoods and our jobs. This practical class teaches and activates communication skills you can use in all areas of life.

Many of us have the same communication skills we learned from our parents and on the playground as kids.  We've never  examined them or acquired better ones. So, in the midst of conflict and everyday communication, we feel like we're doing something really risky, not quite natural, and sooner or later we're going to lose a relationship we really care about.

Next week's class, Brave Communication, starts on Tuesday, February 19 at 6:30 pm and continues on the following Tuesday, February 26. Pastor Charlie Goessler will lead this class utilizing material from the "Brave Communication" seminar and material from the book Crucial Conversations.  Please respond to this email if you would like to be included. No purchase necessary.

Register by filling out your info on the “Contact Us” page, use the “About” drop down menu. Questions? Call Pastor Laurie Goessler at 503.320.2481. Class hosted by Pastor Charlie Goessler

Beginning Tuesday, March 19, 2019 thru Tuesday, April 9, 2019 at 6:30 pm in the downstairs Café, join Pastor Charlie and Pastor Joel in this six-week class as they take us on a journey of what living outside the four walls of the church could look like. We will learn to be motivated to live from passion versus performance or obligation, directed by purpose lived out through our God-given identity and destiny, and fueled by power expressed through purity, prayer, the prophetic, and healing. Tuesday, April 2, 2019 we will be joined by a BSSM team and learn about Treasure Hunting, followed by activation for this class on Wednesday, April 3. Risk is a key component for anyone desiring to become a Firestarter.  Remember, God rewards risk (faith), not success or performance (Hebrews 11:6).

Class will be taught by Pastor Joel Collier and Pastor Charlie Goessler. Please register by filling contacting filling out a “Contact Us” form (Click “About” on this website, “Contact Us” is in the dropdown) with your name, email and “registering for Firestarters” or email Pastor Laurie at You may also fill out the form at the church and turn it in. There is no cost for this class, but registration is encouraged so there is enough material for all.
